El-Shorouk City Electrical Reality
El-Shorouk was built from the 1990s east of Cairo, with a mix of private villas and mid-rise apartment blocks. Phase 1 units built in the 1990s–2002 have older ÉPCO-style distribution panels with no RCD protection. Phase 2 and later blocks have improved infrastructure but single 20A mains that are inadequate for modern household loads.
Phase 1 (pre-2002) panels
ÉPCO-style panels in 1990s units have no residual current protection. A ground fault (from a washing machine, water heater, or pool pump) provides no protection — RCD retrofit strongly recommended
Single-phase villas
Many El-Shorouk villas were connected with a single-phase 20A service. Adding a second floor with additional rooms and ACs requires upgrading to 3-phase 60A service from the street
Distribution authority
El-Shorouk uses its own electricity distribution company — different from Cairo Electricity. Upgrade applications and meter changes follow a separate process that we manage on your behalf
Villa extensions
Shorouk villas frequently have extensions (additions) added informally — wiring these into the main panel safely requires load calculation and often a panel replacement
